Your Ultimate Guide to Doen

My love affair with Doen began back in 2019 when I stumbled upon a sample sale and snagged my very first dress. Since then, I haven’t looked back. What draws me to Doen time and time again is their commitment to soft, organic fabrics and their unique styles, which are beautifully inspired by vintage fashion. Each piece feels like a little bit of history, with timeless silhouettes that fit seamlessly into my wardrobe.

For reference, I’m 5'4", pear-shaped, with a size small to medium on top, size 10 in pants, size 8 in dresses, and size 8.5 to 9 in shoes. Finding the right fit can be tricky, so I’ve included sizing details for each piece to help guide you. I update this post with every new Doen product I acquire, whether it’s purchased online or tried on at their West Village store, so check back often for my latest reviews!

The Doen Jane Blouse has quickly become a beloved staple in my wardrobe, effortlessly bridging the gap between vintage charm and modern versatility. Inspired by the breezy silhouettes of the '60s, this blouse offers a beautifully drapey, relaxed fit adorned with delicate mother-of-pearl buttons, adding a subtle elegance that elevates even the simplest outfit.

One of my favorite aspects of the Jane Blouse is how seamlessly it transitions between seasons. During cooler months, I often layer a cozy turtleneck underneath, allowing me to enjoy its airy silhouette without sacrificing warmth. As summer approaches, the blouse transforms into the perfect lightweight layer—whether tied casually over shorts, thrown over a tank top or sundress, or used as an easy beach cover-up.

Fit-wise, I've found my usual size medium offers a relaxed, billowy fit true to Doen's description. Though there's potential to size down if you prefer a slightly more tailored look, I'm personally happy sticking with medium for the comfort and versatility it provides. Plus, the brand frequently introduces gorgeous new prints—I've already collected three!

If you're considering the Jane Blouse, my advice is to keep an eye out for the stunning new prints Doen periodically releases. It's a versatile, timeless piece that effortlessly enhances any wardrobe, no matter the season.

The Marianne Dress has quickly become my go-to piece for effortlessly chic summer styling. Crafted from crisp organic cotton poplin, this dress stands out with its charming square neckline, gathered bust, and fitted bodice framed by delicate petite ruffles. But the standout feature for me is the beautifully executed dropped waist shirring, which provides a classic, elegant silhouette that can easily transition from casual days out to more dressed-up occasions.

At 5'4", I chose a medium, though in hindsight, I feel a small might have provided a slightly better fit in the bodice. To perfect the fit for my height, I shortened the length by a few inches and adjusted the straps accordingly, which significantly enhanced the overall look and comfort.

Whether paired with casual sandals for daytime or dressed up with heels for an evening event, the Marianne Dress offers versatility and timeless style that I know I'll enjoy wearing for many seasons to come.

You can never have too many Doen Sebastiane Skirts! My love for this skirt was solidified when a fellow Doen fan, Vic Filipini, influenced me to purchase my first one in white. I went with a size Large, but it’s a snug fit, which was slightly concerning. When Doen released the gingham print for Summer 2024, I opted for an XL, hoping it would fit better. Unfortunately, the XL is a bit too large and will need some alterations. Despite the sizing issues, both skirts have been summer staples in my wardrobe, and I’m excited to style them for fall. The Sebastiane skirt is a versatile piece that works across seasons, whether paired with sandals or layered with boots for cooler weather. Since this is another Doen staple, you can shop all their available prints below.

MINETTA DRESS -- CANYON

The Doen Minetta Dress is a timeless addition to my wardrobe. As one of my first Doen pieces, it quickly became a favorite. This flowy dress can be styled with the waist tie for a more fitted look or worn loose for an effortless, free-flowing silhouette. The stunning eyelet print makes it an heirloom piece you'll treasure for years. For size reference, I chose a Medium, which fits perfectly due to its roomy cut. If you’re looking for versatile, bohemian-inspired dresses, the Minetta is a must-have.

Mandarin Dress - - Navy Champignon Floral

I bought the Doen Mandarin Dress before Taylor Swift wore it—yes, you heard that right! Taylor sported this dress during her Midnights teaser and again for her 2023 Fourth of July celebration. As a 5’4” person, I had it shortened by a few inches, which gave it a better fit. I love styling it off the shoulder, similar to how Taylor wore it. The ruffle detailing is beautiful, and it’s a statement piece I love year-round. I opted for a Large since it's more fitted, and I always prefer a slightly roomier fit.

Paris Dress - - Olive Gingham

The Doen Paris Dress in olive gingham is one of my lesser-known but much-loved finds. This dress often goes on sale, and I was immediately drawn to its oversized collar—a perfect fall staple. I love layering a sweater over it and letting the collar pop through for a polished look. I chose a Medium in this free-flowing dress, and it’s perfect for those who prefer a relaxed, comfortable fit without a waist tie.

VIOLETTA DRESS -- NAVY LADY BIRD FLORAL

The Doen Violetta Dress is another early purchase that has remained a wardrobe staple. With its lightweight cotton and dainty blue floral print, it’s a departure from my usual warm-toned pieces, but that’s what I love most. The optional waist tie makes it versatile for both cinched and relaxed fits. This dress, like many Doen designs, is one I wear year-round. For size reference, I went with a Medium to accommodate the roomy silhouette.

VIVETTE NIGHTGOWN

The Doen Vivette Nightgown is a beautiful, vintage-inspired piece that closely resembles the Lovisa Nightgown but is made with a slightly thicker cotton poplin. Its standout details include the shirred neckline, ruffled cap sleeves, and scalloped hem, which add to its romantic, old-world charm. I've worn this nightgown for countless photoshoots and even lent it out to others—it's that versatile. The design gives off strong vintage chemise vibes, which is exactly what I look for in a classic nightgown. While it comes with a waist tie, I rarely use it, though it’s perfect for transforming this piece into a dress you can wear outside. The Vivette is semi-sheer (as shown in the third photo), so you’ll need a slip or something underneath if you plan to wear it as a dress. For size reference, I went with a Medium, which provides a comfortable, relaxed fit.

ORCHID NIGHTGOWN -- BLUSH PROMENADE PLAID

The Doen Orchid Nightgown is a multi-functional piece I purchased to wear as a dress. Its brown, cream, and green plaid is perfect for cozy autumn nights or casual fall outings. After styling it as a day dress, many fellow Doen fans followed suit, buying it to do the same. The nightgown is comfortably free-flowing, and I went with my usual size Medium. If you love cottagecore vibes, this nightgown-turned-dress is perfect for your wardrobe.

POMME SWEATER -- CREAM

The Doen Pomme Sweater had been on my wishlist for ages, and it finally became mine thanks to a bridal shower gift card and a well-timed sale. This chunky, heavy sweater is absolutely stunning, with a luxe feel that justifies its splurge-worthy price. It’s an heirloom piece that I get compliments on every time I wear it. I went with a Medium, which fits well given the sweater’s bulky nature. If you’re looking for a cozy, statement sweater, this is it.

THEDA DRESS -- GOLDEN MESA FLOR

Review coming soon! TLDR: Very free flowing, a little sheer, compliments every time.

LUPINE DRESS -- BLACK

The Doen Lupine Dress is a personal favorite, reminding me of 80s-meets-Victorian fashion—a hallmark of Doen’s unique aesthetic. I wore this dress during a photoshoot in a colonial-era home, where its moody, vintage vibes fit perfectly. The black color and romantic details make it an ideal dress for any occasion. I chose a Large, which fits great in the waist but could use some tailoring at the top for a perfect fit. Overall, it's a stunning piece for anyone drawn to Doen’s historical influences.

The Doen Ischia Dress is a wardrobe essential, and I’m lucky to own two versions! My first Ischia was in a blue print, and I initially ordered a Large, thinking the fitted style would require sizing up. However, the elastic bodice has a lot of give, and the Large was too roomy for my liking.

My second Ischia, in Crimson, was ordered in a Medium, and it fit perfectly. I’ve worn it for numerous photoshoots and even lent it to friends. It’s a must-have piece, and if you’re on the fence about buying it—trust me, you won’t regret it!

TESORO BAG -- BLACK VELVET

I don’t typically go for bags from brands that aren’t known for them, but I couldn’t resist this vintage-inspired velvet box purse from a Doen sale—it’s truly a gem! I had been searching for a genuine vintage box bag for a while, so when this one came out, it immediately caught my eye. It’s small (it doesn’t fit my newest iPhone), but it’s so charming that I can overlook its flaws.

ILIANA DRESS -- NEUTRE JARDIN DE PAPILLONS

Review in Progress!

BRIETTE DRESS (Similar: Evienne Dress)

The Doen Briette Dress, released in Fall 2023, is a stunning silk dress with a vintage-inspired design that blends both 1930s and 1940s elements. If you're looking for something similar this season, check out the Evienne Dress from Fall 2024, which features a similar timeless silhouette. The Briette Dress is one of the many reasons I adore Doen—each piece is so unique and thoughtfully designed. It hits just the right length on my 5’4” frame, and the Peter Pan collar adds a sweet, delicate touch to the overall look. I took a large in this style.

NATIA CARDIGAN -- GALWAY FAIR ISLE

The Doen Natia Cardigan is a stunning brown Fair Isle knit featuring intricate yellow and black details. Released in Fall 2023, this cozy piece also came in a vest and crewneck sweater version, offering versatility for different styles. With its charming vintage-inspired details, this cardigan quickly became a winter wardrobe staple for me. The length is ideal for pairing with high-waisted pants or layering over a soft, cozy dress. While Doen knits are on the pricier side, I highly recommend them! Pro tip: if you’re on a budget, keep an eye out for their Giving Thanks Sale right before Thanksgiving for the best deals.

ELAYNE TOP -- SALT

The Doen Elayne Top was a long-time wishlist item that I finally picked up during a sale, and it’s a beautiful addition to my collection. Made from ultra-lightweight and sheer cotton, this top features delicate embroidery along the neckline, down the front, and along the hem. One of its standout features is the thin tie that cinches in the waist, adding a unique detail that sets it apart from other tops. However, while I love most Doen pieces, this one feels a bit fragile. The buttons along the embroidered front seem delicate, and I worry that one wrong move could pull them. Given its delicacy, I sometimes question whether the price point is justified. That said, I’m glad I added this stunning top to my wardrobe. For reference, I’m wearing a Medium.

ROSENDA DRESS -- BLOSSOM BREEZE

The Doen Rosenda Dress is an absolute dream—though the price tag might make you think twice. Let me explain. Initially, I purchased the plaid Marielle Dress from the 2024 Pre-Fall Collection, hoping it would be the ultimate plaid dress for fall. However, once I tried it on, it just didn’t give me that special feeling. Determined to find the right dress, I visited Doen’s West Village store in NYC for a try-on session, and that’s when the Rosenda Dress won me over. The elastic bodice, sleeves, and neckline of the Medium fit snugly in all the right places. The ruffle collar gives it a vintage-inspired touch that I adore. Plus, the print has a subtle chartreuse green pop, which perfectly complements my recent green accessory purchases. If you’re looking for a fall dress that feels timeless yet unique, the Rosenda is it!

I ended up filming this try on, so feel free to click here to view that reel.

HALEIGH DRESS - - IN BUTTERCUP BOUQUET

Whenever there’s a new release, I try to stop by the Doen store in the West Village to check out their latest pieces. Although I was pressed for time, I managed to try on the Haleigh Dress—a cotton/rayon blend priced at $400. While I would have preferred 100% cotton at that price, the design won me over. I tried a size large, which fit perfectly thanks to the fitted waistline, consistent with my usual Doen sizing. This dress looked amazing paired with my western boots, and I can see it becoming a versatile all-season staple. My verdict? If you love it, go for it! If you’re on a budget, I recommend waiting for Doen’s next sale event to snag it at a discount.

JAMIE TOP - - IN FOXGLOVE FLORAL

The Doen West Village store only had an XS and L in stock, so I tried the large to get a feel for it. I’d likely go with a medium, or even a small if I wanted a more fitted look like the model’s. Sizing up makes it more voluminous, so if that's your style, go for it! The top is made from 100% ramie, which feels similar to linen with a slightly sheer texture. The color palette is gorgeous, but I already have a few tops like this, so I passed. This piece works well with denim or pants year-round—it’s light enough for warmer months and could easily be layered with a fitted turtleneck in colder weather.

selena dress

The Doen Selena Dress is a beautiful 100% silk piece with a striking 70s silhouette and print. Featuring elegant bell sleeves and a flattering cowl neckline, this dress is a standout for vintage-inspired wardrobes. I tried a size large, though wearing it with bulky bike shorts wasn’t ideal—thinner undergarment shorts would work better to avoid bunching under the silk. At 5'4", I found the length a bit short, but I’m used to wearing maxi dresses, so taller individuals might find this dress shorter than expected. While it's definitely a splurge due to the luxurious silk, I can see this being worn across multiple seasons (just skip the summer heat). Pair it with tall boots and a suede winter coat for a fully vintage-inspired look!

elowen skirt

Doen’s Elowen skirt comes in various fabrics, and for Fall 2024, I chose the dark brown check in a lightweight wool/poly blend. I went with a large (pro tip: size up if you're between sizes for a better drape, especially in fabrics like the silk options from previous seasons). Though I had bulky bike shorts underneath, this skirt is still a great fit. The Elowen skirt is a perfect winter wardrobe staple—highly recommend it for layering this season!
